Viña Tondonia 1973 Rioja Gran Reserva
This red wine from the northen Spanish DOC of Rioja is a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo, matured in oak barrels for 10 years; 1973 vintage.
The label design is indeed that of Viña Tondonia's Gran Reservas. However, when the terminology of "Crianza", "Reserva" and "Gran Reserva" was agreed in the 1970s, Don Pedro López Heredia, owner of Viña Tondonia, objected and so refused to use the new terminologies on his wines' labels.
Instead, the neck label simply states "Rioja de Crianza" as was the former terminology of stating the wine had been matured in oak.
Please note the fill level of this lot.
