Individual sellers deliver bottles that they wish to sell at auction to our office in Perth. Once they have been authenticated by our highly-experienced team, photographs are taken and the bottles are listed on the website in the next available auction. Whisky Auctioneer hosts whisky auctions on a frequent basis, during which registered users across the globe can bid on bottles online. The highest bidder at the close of the auction is then notified by email and asked for payment within 3 days. The seller receives payment within 21 working days of the end of the auction.

To sell your whisky you will firstly need to register on our website and then either deliver or post your bottle(s) to Whisky Auctioneer; we do the rest! All the information you need to sell your whisky can be found in our Step-by-Step Guide to Selling Whisky at Auction.
There is a £5 listing fee per bottle (not per lot). Once a bottle is sold, sellers pay a 5% commission on the final sale price.
If you wish to place a reserve on an item there is a fee of £7.50 per lot.
Please note VAT is charged to commission, listing and reserve fees. VAT is not applicable to the hammer price of the whisky.
All whiskies advertised on our website must be at our office at least one week before the start of the auction in which they will be listed. If you are unable to bring the bottle to us, we can organise a collection or you can post the bottle. Our address is:

The end date of the current auction will always be clearly displayed on the orange notification bar at the top of the website.
Our auctions will end anytime from 7pm (UK Local Time). Once 7pm is reached, activity on any item will prolong the ENTIRE auction by a further 2 minutes.
This means that the entire auction will end when there has been no bidding activity placed within the last two minutes after 7pm. The auction will usually take several hours to finish after 7pm has passed.
You can submit as many bottles as you like!
Sellers are paid within 21 business days from the end of an auction, however, payment is only completed if the buyer has paid us.
Payment is made by direct bank transfer and can take a few days to show in your account.
Any banking charges or exchange rates are paid for by the seller.
If your item fails to meet a reserve price, we still require the listing fee and reserve fee be paid.
We will then offer you a chance to re-list the item (subject to fees) or discuss returning the bottle to you (subject to delivery charge).

It is sometimes more effective to ship multiple orders together to save on shipping costs. To do this please complete any outstanding order selecting "Collection/Storage" and then complete the form to Ship Stored Orders.
We are currently offering free secure storage for all of our customers until 31 December 2020 which you can find out more about here.
Most courier companies fail to cover alcohol or glass on their insurance policies. We can offer Loss & Breakage Assurance (foremerly Risk Free Shipping) for your items at a cost of 3% of the total hammer price and commission.
If you would like to add Loss & Breakage Assurance to your order this is selected at the checkout stage.
We have many years experience in shipping whisky globally and work hard to reduce any risk of damage to items bought in our auctions.
Yes. Upon payment you will be asked to select either collection or delivery. If you choose to collect your whisky in person you will have 90 days to do so before a storage fee of £1 per day will apply.

If you are successful at auction, once payment is received by Whisky Auctioneer then your whisky will be dispatched within 7 working days.
UK orders normally arrive within two days of dispatch.
European orders normally arrive within five days of dispatch.
The rest of the world can vary dependent on location.

When browsing the bidding history on a specific lot, the list of recent bidders is shown as 'anonymised bidders' with the exception of any bids placed through your account - which would appear as your username.
When logged in to your account your bids are shown with your username, however, other users are not able to see this and you will appear as an 'anonymised bidder'.
User information/identity will never be revealed in the bidding process. We take user data and information protection very seriously at Whisky Auctioneer. Further GDPR info here.
In order to bid above £5,000 we require an identity check. This is to ensure the legitimacy of users so that bids are valid and fair. Once you submit the below, our Customer Service team will review the documentation and you will then be alerted whether you have been approved or not. Once approved, you will be able to bid over £5,000 on any lot across the auction. Please note, that should circumstances arise as per our terms and conditions, we reserve the ability to revoke approval, or, alternatively, approve after further review should an individual not be approved.
If you are a Private Individual please provide 2 forms of ID:
Your passport or other government-issued photo ID; and
Proof of your residential address (for example a Bank Statement or Utility Bill dated within the last 3 months but clearly showing your name and address).
If you are an Organisation please provide 2 documents:
Registered office and business address;
Shareholders and any ultimate beneficial owners and;
Passport or other government-issued ID of individuals with access to the account who may bid
You can upload these documents as either a scanned image or a photograph. This can be done at any time, either prior the auction to ensure that you are ready to place your bids or during a live auction if you decide you wish to increase your maximum bid.
Due to the governing laws for licensing in Scotland, there is a minimum price for alcohol units. As a result we have introduced a minimum bid price for each item, £15 will be the starting bid for most bottles of whisky, but this will be calculated on a lot by lot basis.
If you are successful in winning a lot, buyers pay a 10% commission on the final hammer price of the whisky.

Items can be stored with us free of charge for combining multiple orders and dispatching at a later date. Please note that there is no charge for storgae in our secure warehouse until 31 December 2020.0. AIf there is a proposed change to storage terms after this date, we will let you know as soon as possible.
You can collect your orders whenever we are open, but if you intend to have the items shipped then please complete our Ship Stored Orders form.

Once your maximum bid is placed, our system automatically increases the bid level of the Lot incrementally (based on the table below) until it reaches your maximum bid.
